STOP Excessively Clearing your THROAT and do this INSTEAD

ree

Clearing your throat is bad for your vocal cords!

Here's why!

-We have 2 vocal cords, which open and close whilst vibrating to produce voice.

-On the inside of each vocal cord, there is a mucus lining to help prevent irritation when the vocal cords come together.

-When we cough and clear our throats, we are bringing our vocal cords together aggressively, affecting the mucus lining, which can result in pain and hoarseness.

What can you do instead?

- Check your hydration levels! Are you drinking enough? Is it 2 litres of water a day? This can be in the form of squash, herbal tea or decaffeinated drinks. DID YOU KNOW? Caffeine can result in dehydration!

- Sip water instead of clearing your throat

- Are you having too much alcohol, caffeine or dairy?

- Try inhaling steam through your mouth

- Try sucking on a sugar free sweet

- Try swallowing if you get a little tickle in your throat
